The Wedding

Emily and Toby wanted a wedding that had a classic look, but an overarching feel of warmth, love and fun.

They chose the new Wharf InterContinental hotel because it provided an easy and relaxed experience for their guests coming to attend from out of town, while having stunning floor to ceiling windows that were far from a typical hotel ballroom look.

The Invitations

Toby and Emily love living in DC and Toby has worked in politics in the past. Third Clover Paper created a fun fully custom Save the Date inspired by political campaign posters, notifying guests of Emily and Toby’s wedding “in order to form a more perfect union.”

For the invitation suite, Emily and Toby collaborated with Dandelion Patch to design a classic and timeless invitation, accented with a custom DC map sketch on the envelope liner and the postage stamp.

Getting Ready

Emily and Toby opted to forgo a traditional wedding party, instead including many of their closest friends and siblings as their ‘friends of honor.’ The rules were less formal – the girls could wear any black dress, and they sat on either side of the chuppah instead of standing during the ceremony.

Susan Lim provided hair and makeup services for Emily and her ladies as they spent the morning in their hotel suite.

Emily wore a stunning Oscar de la Renta gown purchased from Miami Atelier.

The Guys

The ladies didn’t have all the fun. Toby and his friends got ready in a fun suite at the Wharf InterContinental, complete with a pool table and stunning waterfront views.

Toby wore a custom suit, and his friends of honor wore charcoal grey suits of their choosing.

The Ceremony

Toby and Emily’s close friend Rachel officiated their ceremony, under their cherry blossom Chuppah, designed by Blair Roberts of Sweet Blossoms.

The Reception

On of the top priorities for Emily and Toby was food and beverage. They wanted their guests to have a delightful meal, and the bartenders and chefs at the Wharf InterContinental did an incredible job crafting the event menu and cocktail choices.

Sweet Blossoms’ floral arrangements complemented linens from Select Event Group and chairs from DC Rentals.

The fun!

Emily and Toby chose Jordan of Maryland’s DJ as their wedding DJ.

The entered their reception and shared their first dance, surrounded by their guests. They then shared a mini dance set with their guests before everyone sat for toasts and dinner.

CAKE

After dinner, Emily and Toby cut a cake from Fluffy Thoughts Bakery in McLean, before kicking off the rest of the dance party.
